Dr. King reminds us why we need to get busy
A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. On the one hand, we are called to play the Good Samaritan on life's roadside, but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho Road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life's highway. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
I would humbly suggest that one place we can start this restructuring is with campaign finance reform. The biggest distortion in today's U.S. politics is political campaign spending. State, national, and even some local politicians must now raise enough money to purchase a small third world country before they are even allowed to consider running for office. How can we expect our politicians to stand up for us when we only pay attention to big money candidates?
Corporations are not the people. let's make it possible for us to have more choices when we vote. Working people, in this country, will only have a voice when it is no longer so easy to drown out democratic, populist champions with unlimited corporate cash. We can insist on passage of the DISCLOSE Act as a first step. Then we can elect good people in local races that aren't too expensive for school boards, town councils, and the like. A chorus of thousands of real Americans will always beat one dictator wannabe with a fancy megaphone. Keep up the great work and don't get discouraged my friends, we will take our country back!

Thanks for this post, Ulysses. That's one of my favorite pictures of MLK.
Awesome post Ulysses!
King should be on Mt. Rushmore. May I use this post?
I love it. We need to get even more active. Darn watching the Republicans is a full time job.
Thanks for all the kind words. Cletis, I would be honored for you to use this however you see fit!
